So…we are remodeling our kitchen and dining area! It has been a long planning process but on Monday the project actually started. At the end of the day on Monday I came home to a completely gutted kitchen! It was amazing!
Here is the before picture of our kitchen.
And below is another angle of our kitchen. It was built in 1993 so the cabinets are outdated and our microwave sounds like a jet engine every time it is turned on. It is time for a new kitchen!
Our kitchen was a combination of both our kitchen and dining area. We have a lot of friends over during the week so this limited amount of space began to feel smaller and smaller. The room also felt dark due to poor lighting. The lighting is something we will fix with lots of can lights in our remodel.
Our plan is to knock down this wall and open up the kitchen to include a nice, big island. This front room will be our new dining room.

So on Monday afternoon, I came home to a demolished kitchen! The cabinets were out and the wall was removed. It was awesome!
Thankfully, by the end of the day when my family was ready to come home, our wonderful contractor had cleaned up for us.
By the end of the week, our can lights were all installed, some of our cabinets were placed, and the island was framed out. HOWEVER, we came upon a big problem…our beautiful cabinets had scratches, gouges, and cracks on some of their doors and frames. We aren’t sure what happened but needless to say, we are going to have to wait a couple weeks to get replacement cabinets. Our planned 3-week kitchen and dining room remodel project has now been extended…more to come next week!
