I am often looking for quick, easy, healthy snacks for both my kids and myself. (Aren’t we all, right??) And I usually prefer to make homemade snacks, instead of eating packaged ones if I can help it. One of the recommended snacks that I have seen over and over again are Oatmeal Balls or Energy Balls. Call them what you want, they are all basically the same, but they do have slight variations to accommodate different dietary needs and preferences. So after seeing so many versions, I decided to make my own version of no-bake oatmeal balls that are super fun, healthy and that my kiddos absolutely love (and I do too!)! They are No-Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Balls with M&M’s! Yummy!
Since my family eats a vegetarian diet, I am always on the lookout for healthy ways to get more protein into my kids’ diets. Peanut butter is an excellent way to do that. So these Peanut Butter Oatmeal Balls are perfect!
This version of Oatmeal Balls is also great with chocolate chips or sprinkles, instead of M&Ms. Or you could omit those fun additions altogether if you are wanting to keep your oatmeal balls free of sugar. The kids really do like those extra additions though 😉
Like I said, there are SO MANY versions of these oatmeal balls but these ones in particular have a little less sugar and a little more protein in them than other versions that I’ve seen. And I even snuck in some ground flax seeds for extra nutrition, but that is always optional. 😉
How do I make them?
The best part about these No-Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Balls with M&Ms is that they are SO easy to make. You simply mix all the ingredients in a bowl, shape them into small balls (the recipe makes about 12 balls) and start snacking! However, if you would like to save some for later (which is difficult to do with how delicious they are!), then lay them out on a cookie sheet, and refrigerate them for about 5-10 minutes.
After they have been refrigerated and are fairly firm, you can stack them and store them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for days. They make the perfect healthy snack to grab throughout the day or you can pack them up for lunches to go.
I often make a double or triple batch of these No-Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Balls with M&M’s and then stick some in the fridge and some in the freezer. When I run out of the ones in the fridge, I simple transfer the oatmeal balls from the freezer, into the fridge. They are great to have on-hand for weeks that you may need an easy, healthy snack to munch on at home or to pack in your kids’ lunches (or your own!).
