Meal planning is a HOT topic. Why? Because everyone needs to eat. 🙂
Meal planning can get a little mundane or feel more complicated than it needs to be. It’s especially difficult when there are different dietary restrictions and allergies among family members.
The “2-week meal plan and repeat” meal planning strategy:
So I got to thinking…why do we feel like we need to have a new meal plan every single week? Isn’t there joy in a family member getting to eat their favorite meal more often? So I decided for us super busy women that it would be most beneficial for us to make a 2-week meal plan, and then simply repeat it!
This “2-week meal plan and repeat” meal planning strategy does not leave the menu boring and repetitive week to week, but instead it makes it easier for us meal planners while enabling our family members to have their favorite meals more than once every other month (or however often they got to eat them in the past).
Some of my favorite meals include:
These meals above are also healthy and full of nutrients which make them the perfect meals to repeat throughout the month. 🙂
Benefits of a 2-week meal plan:
- Have a month of meals planned out, twice as fast.
- Use the same grocery shopping list twice, so you will have 1 grocery shopping list for the month instead of 4.
- The second week of meals will be especially easy to make because you made them quite recently and remember most of the steps.
- You will be able to use some of the same ingredients as the first 2-week meal plan so you can save money on groceries (i.e. a pack of tortillas, frozen fruits and veggies, eggs, spices, grains, etc.)
Doesn’t this sound like such a simple process? I am not sure why this just dawned on me a couple of months ago, but I realized I have a lot of favorite meals that I only make every 4-6 weeks. Why? Because I am busy making other recipes or trying brand new recipes.
There isn’t anything wrong with that of course, but when you are a busy person (a mom of 3 young kids in my case), meal planning can begin to feel more stressful than joyful. So let’s make this process easier on ourselves. 🙂
I came up with a printable worksheet where I could plan out my 2-weeks worth of meals (which I am going to share with you!).
New to meal planning?
If you are new to meal planning and want some tips on how to meal plan quickly and effectively, then I have an awesome post on the 10 Best Tips for Meal Planning for Busy Families. This post might actually change your life. It contains excellent information on how to meal plan effectively and easily, and gives you the tools to get your meal prep done in less than 15 minutes. I don’t know about you, but I just don’t have two hours (or more!) on a Sunday to meal plan and prep.
My printable 2-week meal planning worksheet has the following categories:
- 3 days of family favorites
- 2 days of 30-minute meals
- 1 day of eating out or ordering in
- 1 day of a new recipe
- TOTAL of 7 days of meals
Each of these categories will be planned out for 2 weeks. Then simply leave the worksheet on the fridge and use it for the last 2 weeks of the month as well! If something in your schedule changes for the last 2 weeks of the month, then simply switch the existing meals around to make the meals work for your family’s schedule.
This 2-week meal planning strategy will make your life SO much easier! It has changed mine. I also enjoy getting to eat my favorite meals more often, and my family enjoys it too!
